In an effort to improve relations between Bangladesh and India and expand Australia’s involvement in the Indian Ocean region, Australian Minister for Small Business, International Development, and Multicultural Affairs Dr. Anne Aly will travel to Bangladesh this week.
According to a news release sent today by the Australian Embassy in Bangladesh, Dr. Aly will introduce the Australia-Bangladesh growth Partnership Plan 2025–2030 when she is there, reiterating Canberra’s longstanding commitment to assisting Bangladesh’s inclusive and democratic growth.
The new partnership framework is expected to guide bilateral cooperation in areas such as sustainable growth, human development, and climate resilience.
“Australia welcomes Bangladesh’s transition to a democratic and inclusive future, and is committed to supporting these efforts,” the Australian minister said in a statement.
Dr Aly will also visit Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, where Bangladesh continues to shelter over 1.1 million displaced Rohingya people.
She underlined Australia’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, calling the situation the “largest and most complex humanitarian crisis in the region.”
Australia has now committed almost AUD 1.26 billion since 2017 to humanitarian aid for Myanmar, the Rohingya population in Bangladesh, and host communities, including an extra AUD 370 million (about USD 245 million) over the next three years.
The visit demonstrates the Albanese government’s dedication to collaborating with allies in the Indian Ocean to further regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
As Bangladesh continues its journey toward sustainable and inclusive prosperity, Dr. Aly’s visit to Dhaka demonstrates Australia’s intention to further its people-to-people ties, humanitarian assistance, and development collaboration with the country.
