Bangladesh has to achieve 30% renewable energy target by 2030: Syeda Rizwana

Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan today stressed on achieving 30 percent renewable energy target by 2030.

 “We have to achieve the target of having 30 percent renewable energy by 2030,” she said in an inaugural programme of Team Europe Initiative-Climate and Energy at the Hotel InterContinental in the capital.

The adviser, however, said the government has taken various initiatives to make it mandatory in setting up solar panels in the government offices along with reviewing the possibilities of solar and wind power to this end.

She called upon the global community to extend more support to Bangladesh in its efforts to face the natural calamities and transformation of energy.

In this connection, she stressed the need for changing mindset, technology, finance and accountability for transforming energy.

“We have started the process…But, we need technology transfer from European countries and affordable finance,” she added.

The adviser expressed the hope that Europe would always stand beside Bangladesh and the co-journey will be consolidated further with the Team Europe Initiative.

European Union Ambassador, Michael Miller, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz and European Union’s Director for Climate Finance Diana Acconcia, spoke on the occasion.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Joris van Bommel, representatives from different European countries and climate experts were present, among others.
