Prof. Mohammad Azam, Director General (DG) of the Bangla Academy, stated today that the education sector should be prioritized for fundamental reforms in all areas of the nation.
He said this during a talk hosted by the International Mother Language Institute here today, which was organized by the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement. “What will our textbooks be like?” was the title of the discussion.
The DG stated that industrialized nations spend roughly 8% of their budgets on education, citing the United Nations’ (UN) guideline that nations devote at least 6% of their GDP to this sector. The budget for education in Bangladesh, however, is not enough to cover the demands of the sector.
Prof Azam also said that election manifestos should clearly state whether political parties plan to increase the education budget.
Other guests at the discussion addressed various issues related to the country’s education system.
