The UN Peacekeeping Medal has been given to members of the Bangladesh Navy Force Marine Unit (BANFMU-10) serving in Juba and Malakal, South Sudan, as part of the UN peacekeeping effort.
According to an ISPR announcement released today, the BANFMU-10 Contingent’s Medal Parade took place in Juba, South Sudan, on Wednesday.
Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), was the event’s chief guest and gave the UN Peacekeeping Medal to 199 navy officers and sailors in appreciation of their exceptional contributions to the peacekeeping efforts.
The ceremony was attended by top commanders and representatives from UNMISS Force Headquarters.
The Force Commander gave the Bangladesh Navy personnel serving in the peacekeeping effort in South Sudan a lot of appreciation during the medal parade.
He mentioned that the Bangladesh Navy Contingent has made an outstanding contribution in transporting fuel, food and other important goods of the United Nations by conducting operations with great courage and efficiency in the hostile environment and conflict areas of the Nile River.
He also commented that the Bangladesh Navy Contingent is performing its great and important duties such as conducting regular patrols on the river route, conducting recce operations, rescue operations, diving operations and providing transportation and security to all UN agencies deployed in South Sudan in a commendable manner.
He thanked the Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Navy for their assistance with the UN peacekeeping efforts and hoped that this pattern would continue.
Since 2015, the Bangladesh Navy Contingent has been a member of the United Nations peacekeeping effort in South Sudan.
The Bangladesh Navy’s Force Marine Unit, the sole UNMISS marine force in South Sudan, is working to carry out the UN mandate over the broad Nile River region.
The Bangladesh Navy Contingent has successfully completed 71 logistic operations (Operation Life Line) by traversing the 1,311-kilometer-long Nile River.
Since its deployment, the Bangladesh Navy Contingent has been making outstanding contributions to the development and peace-building in South Sudan.
In addition, in the turbulent Mediterranean Sea, the Bangladesh Navy’s warship BNS Sangram is proudly flying the country’s flag and playing a commendable role in establishing world peace in international waters.
