DNCC urges govt bodies to protect waterbodies, fields, parks in city

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has written to a number of government agencies about the preservation of the capital’s biodiversity and the need to preserve the natural environment.

Yesterday, the DNCC administrator signed the letter, which was sent to the registrar and sub-registrar offices, the Ministry of Land, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the National Housing Authority, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the Deputy Commissioners, and the Additional Commissioners (land).

It is crucial to reserve fields, parks, and waterbodies for maintaining the city’s habitability and sustainable development. Trading, changing and using of fields, parks, and waterbodies proposed in the Detailed Area Plan (DAP 2022-2035) by RAJUK must be stopped immediately, the letter reads.

It also urges the respective bodies to implement land-tax related polices for the above-mentioned lands.

To increase public awareness and stop the usage and trading of 150 acres of land set aside for the construction of waterbodies, the DNCC has already put up signboards in a number of locations throughout the intended DAP areas in Satarkul, Badda, and Sutivola Mouja.

Other locations, including Mirpur, Kafrul, the cantonment area, Bhatara, Khilgaon, Baunia, Pallabi, Uttarkhan, and Dakshinkhan, are currently undergoing the signboard installation process.
