UK-France migrant returns deal comes into effect

The UK Home Office said Tuesday that a pact between London and Paris will allow Britain to repatriate some migrants who cross the Channel in tiny boats to France.

A “one-in, one-out” plan to reduce record numbers of irregular Channel crossings was agreed upon by President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Keir Starmer during Macron’s state visit to the UK last month.

The EU Commission gave its “green light on this innovative approach” to the final document, which the two countries signed last week, according to a news release issued by the UK Home Office on Monday.
