Amid complaints, Chhatra Shibir was compelled to take the images of convicted war criminals off from TSC

The administration of Dhaka University has taken the images of people found guilty of war crimes in 1971 out of the July Uprising display after receiving heavy criticism from a number of communist organizations. The removal happened on Tuesday night, reports Prothom Alo.

The Chhatra Shibir university branch held a three-day exhibition, conversation, and cultural event called “36 July: We Will Not Stop” at Dhaka University’s Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) to commemorate the anniversary of the July Uprising. Pictures of convicted war criminals that were on exhibit during the event went viral on social media, provoking indignation and harsh criticism.

Tensions at TSC were still high as of 9:30 p.m., when this report was filed, with Shibir supporters and leftist organizations yelling anti-Shiri slogans.

Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed of Dhaka University informed Prothom Alo,

We instructed Chhatra Shibir to get the images taken down. They consented to take them out. With the assistance of the proctorial staff and our assistant proctor, the images were later removed.
