Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed profound shock and sorrow over the loss of lives, including many young students, in a tragic air force training aircraft crash that occurred in Dhaka earlier today.
“Deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives, many of them young students, in a tragic air crash in Dhaka. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families,” Prime Minister Modi conveyed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) this evening.
He further extended his prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the crash, stating, “India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”
The Indian premier’s message was disseminated to the media by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka this evening.
The Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka’s Uttara area shortly after takeoff. Reports indicate at least 19 to 20 fatalities, including the pilot and numerous schoolchildren, with over 160 to 170 people injured, many suffering from burns. The Chinese-made jet reportedly experienced a technical malfunction, and despite the pilot’s efforts to divert it away from densely populated areas, it struck the school building where classes were in session. Bangladesh’s interim government has declared a day of national mourning for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
