Dhaka warns expatriates in Malaysia over fake passport services

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has issued a stark warning to Bangladeshi expatriates in Malaysia, urging them to exercise extreme caution against fraudulent social media activities that falsely promise passport services. These deceptive schemes are reportedly leveraging the name and even the photograph of a High Commission employee.

In a public statement released on Monday, the High Commission disclosed that an individual operating under the Facebook ID “Chowdhury Babu” has been illicitly using the High Commission’s official identity, along with an employee’s image, across Facebook and other social media platforms. This individual is allegedly offering passport-related services to expatriates for illicit gain.

“It is to inform all, including Bangladeshi expatriates, that the Bangladesh High Commission has no connection whatsoever with any promises of passport or other services made through any ID other than the verified page of the High Commission,” the statement explicitly clarified.

The High Commission further emphasized that it will not assume any responsibility for financial transactions conducted with such fraudulent IDs or individuals. It strongly urged all concerned parties to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to these scams.

Officials reiterated the High Commission’s unwavering commitment to providing transparent and secure consular services for Bangladeshi nationals residing in Malaysia. They implored expatriates to verify any service-related communication solely through the High Commission’s official and verified platforms, accessible via their website and official social media channels.
