The Bangladesh Army today reiterated its unwavering determination to uphold the country’s overall law and order and safeguard its sovereignty, standing firmly by the side of the people.
“The army has been working relentlessly to protect the country’s sovereignty and life and property of the people,” stated Staff Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam of the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Military Operations Directorate during a media briefing at Dhaka Cantonment.
He further emphasized that the military is simultaneously enforcing a vigilant posture to ensure the security of crucial state assets and establishments, as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain overall stability across the country.
Colonel Islam announced that the army will adopt tougher measures against mob violence and other activities that cause public suffering and damage public property in the coming days. He highlighted that, in accordance with the directives of Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, military personnel are carrying out their duties in close coordination with concerned ministries, law enforcement agencies, local administrations, and the mass media to maintain law and order.
The AHQ staff colonel also noted that Bangladesh Army personnel are actively working to preserve communal harmony nationwide, in addition to ensuring the overall security of diplomats and foreign embassies.
Providing statistics from the recent “July mass uprising,” Colonel Islam informed reporters that a total of 4,790 injured individuals received treatment at Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) across various cantonments nationwide. He added that 22 of these individuals are still receiving care at Dhaka CMH.
In the ongoing nationwide anti-crime crackdown, the army has apprehended an additional 562 suspected criminals and seized 26 illegal firearms and 100 rounds of bullets within the past two weeks. Since the commencement of military deployment for maintaining law and order, army personnel have arrested a total of 15,646 crime suspects and seized a staggering 9,692 illegally possessed firearms and 2,860,854 rounds of ammunition.
