After US President Donald Trump canceled discussions with Ottawa in response to the tax, Canada announced on Sunday that it will repeal levies that affected US IT companies in an effort to achieve a trade agreement with Washington.
“Today, Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne “announced that Canada would repeal the Digital Services Tax (DST) in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States,” according to a government statement.
According to the report, Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada “have agreed that parties will resume negotiations with a view towards agreeing on a deal by July 21, 2025.”
