Iran judiciary says Israeli strike on Tehran’s Evin prison killed 71

Iran’s judiciary announced on Sunday that an Israeli strike on Evin prison earlier this week resulted in at least 71 fatalities. This revelation comes days after a ceasefire brought an end to a 12-day conflict between the two long-standing adversaries.

Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir stated that “According to official figures, 71 people were killed in the attack on Evin prison,” referring to the Monday strike on the heavily fortified complex located in northern Tehran. The attack was part of the broader bombardment campaign initiated by Israel on June 13.

Jahangir specified that the victims at Evin included administrative staff, prison guards, prisoners, visiting family members, and even neighbors residing near the facility. He added that the strike damaged parts of the prison’s administrative building, medical center, and visitation hall.
