Khaleda Zia sends seasonal fruits to Qatar’s Emir, PM

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman have conveyed a gesture of goodwill and gratitude to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, by sending seasonal fruits from Bangladesh.

The symbolic gift was officially received by Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of the Protocol Department at Qatar’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, in Doha at 3:00 PM BST today. This was confirmed by Shyrul Kabir Khan, a Member of the BNP Media Cell.

Present at the gift-handing over ceremony were BNP Chairperson Advisory Council member Dr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Nazrul Islam, and Qatar BNP General Secretary Shariful Haque Saju.

The gesture also served as an expression of “immense gratitude” for the special air ambulance provided by Qatar’s Emir, which facilitated Begum Khaleda Zia’s journey to London for advanced medical treatment earlier this year. Reports from May 2025 indicate that Khaleda Zia traveled to London on January 8 via a Qatari royal air ambulance and returned to Dhaka on May 5 using the same specialized medical transport after approximately four months of treatment.

The overall arrangements for sending the gifts from Dhaka Airport were overseen by Mymensingh Divisional BNP Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam on June 23, acting on behalf of the BNP chairperson and acting chairman.

This diplomatic overture underscores the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Qatar, which have seen enhanced cooperation in various sectors, including manpower, energy, and legal affairs. While diplomatic relations are primarily managed at the state level, such exchanges from prominent political figures like Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman can serve to reinforce bilateral ties and express appreciation for humanitarian gestures.
