Trump says US bombs Iran nuclear sites, joining Israeli campaign

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, President Donald Trump announced that the US military had conducted a “very successful attack” on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the Fordo uranium enrichment plant. This action signifies Washington’s involvement in Israel’s ongoing air campaign against Tehran.

Trump stated that a “full payload of BOMBS” was deployed against the underground facility at Fordo. He is scheduled to address the nation at 10:00 pm Saturday Washington time (0200 GMT Sunday) following his unexpected announcement of the strikes.

This renewed US military engagement in the Middle East occurs despite Trump’s previous commitments to avoid further “forever wars” in the region. Iran had previously warned of retaliation against US forces in the region should Washington intervene.

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. He reiterated, “A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,” adding that “all planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors.”

Iranian media outlets confirmed that sections of the Fordo plant, as well as the Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites, were targeted in the attacks.

Following the strikes, Trump reportedly spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A senior White House official informed AFP that the United States had also provided a “heads up” to its key ally, Israel, prior to the strikes.

In a subsequent post announcing his address, Trump declared that “IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR,” characterizing the moment as “historic” for the United States, Israel, and the world.

Earlier on Saturday, there were reports of US B-2 bombers, known for carrying “bunker buster” bombs, departing the United States and heading across the Pacific. Trump did not specify the types of US aircraft or munitions used in the operation.
