G7 leaders including Trump urge ‘de-escalation’ on Iran

In a joint statement released Monday at a conference in Canada, G7 leaders urged “de-escalation” with Iran while reaffirming Israel’s right to self-defense in the worsening Middle East situation.

“We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself,” the government statement read. “Iran cannot ever possess a nuclear weapon, as we have often stated.

“We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.”
