Biden-appointed US ambassador to leave Russia ‘soon’

Moscow, Russia – The United States Ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, is set to conclude her mission in Moscow “soon” after approximately two years in the role, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow announced on Thursday. Tracy’s impending departure comes as the U.S.-Russia relationship navigates a period of notable transition under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Appointed during the previous administration of former President Joe Biden, Ambassador Tracy’s tenure has overseen a complex phase in diplomatic relations. President Trump has signaled a policy of rapprochement with Russia, notably engaging in regular communications with Russian leader Vladimir Putin – a significant departure from Biden’s strategy of seeking to isolate the Kremlin chief.

In recent months, diplomats from both nations have engaged in several rounds of negotiations, which have included discussions on enhancing the operational capabilities of their respective embassies.

In a social media post, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow confirmed that Tracy “will soon conclude her mission at the US Embassy in the Russian Federation.” While an exact departure date was not specified, the embassy indicated it would broadcast a farewell ceremony online on Friday afternoon.

President Trump has not yet publicly nominated a successor for the ambassadorial post in Moscow, nor has he commented on Ambassador Tracy’s forthcoming departure.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov tempered expectations regarding a rapid improvement in Russia-U.S. relations, stating on Wednesday that it was “unlikely” that efforts to mend ties would yield “quick results.”
