M Riaz Hamidullah, Bangladesh’s newly appointed High Commissioner to India, officially presented his credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu today at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Murmu warmly welcomed Ambassador Hamidullah, emphasizing the deep-rooted and historic relationship between India and Bangladesh. “We envision a democratic, stable, prosperous, and inclusive Bangladesh,” President Murmu stated. She underscored that the foundation of bilateral ties is built upon the shared sacrifices of the 1971 Liberation War, and spoke of the importance of a joint vision for shared prosperity and enhanced connectivity. President Murmu also congratulated Bangladesh on assuming the chairmanship of BIMSTEC for a two-year term.
Ambassador Hamidullah, a seasoned career diplomat who assumed his duties on April 14, 2025, coinciding with the Bangla New Year, conveyed warm greetings from the President and people of Bangladesh. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two nations and stressed the importance of fostering connections between the youths of both countries, recognizing them as the largest demographic segments.
Prior to his current posting, Ambassador Hamidullah served as Secretary (West & Multilateral) at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka. His extensive diplomatic career spans three decades and includes assignments as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, along with positions at the Permanent Mission in New York, the Bangladesh Mission in New Delhi, and as Director at the SAARC Secretariat.
Ambassador Hamidullah was among several envoys who presented their Letters of Credence today, with representatives from Thailand, Costa Rica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Türkiye also attending the ceremony.
