Political parties have expressed their support for the interim government’s initiatives, including ongoing reforms, according to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam. The statement followed a second day of meetings between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and 20 leaders representing various political factions.
Briefing reporters outside State Guest House Jamuna tonight, Alam detailed that discussions centered on a range of issues, including the upcoming elections and the progress of the government’s reform agenda.
The Press Secretary confirmed that Chief Adviser Yunus informed the political parties that national elections are anticipated to be held within the window of December of the current year and June of the next. Professor Yunus specifically assured leaders that polls would be conducted by June 30 next year, a timeline that reportedly met with satisfaction from the political representatives.
During the meetings, the Chief Adviser underscored the challenging political climate, stating, “We are in a big war-like situation. After the Awami League’s activities were banned, attempts are on to destabilize us in various ways. We have to get out of this situation.”
Regarding the electoral process, Professor Yunus conveyed his personal commitment to fairness, telling political leaders, “I will feel guilty if I cannot hold a fair election.”
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were also present at the briefing.
