The demands articulated by the Jagannath University student body have received official endorsement from the government, as confirmed by University Grants Commission Chairman Professor SMA Faiz.
Speaking at the protest assembly held at the Kakrail intersection in the capital at approximately 7:00 PM, Professor Faiz conveyed the government’s affirmative stance, stating, “The government has adopted a highly constructive approach concerning the appeals of Jagannath University students, and this collaborative spirit will persist.”
Professor Faiz elaborated on the specific resolutions reached: “A decision has been finalized to augment the university’s operational budget. This budgetary enhancement directly addresses the primary demand put forth by the students.”
Furthermore, he announced a tangible step towards alleviating the accommodation challenges: “Concurrently, a resolution has been reached to expedite the initiation of temporary dormitory construction to mitigate the prevailing housing crisis.” He further noted the advanced stage of the university’s expansion plans, adding, “The prioritized implementation process for the second campus is already underway.”
This development follows a significant escalation in the students’ demonstration, with the commencement of a mass hunger strike at 3:30 PM, underscoring the urgency of their demands.
