As Chattogram residents excitedly await Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus’s first visit to his home district since taking office tomorrow (Wednesday), all preparations are underway by the local government and relevant organizations.
He started his teaching career at the Department of Economics at the University of Chattogram (CU), and tomorrow’s busy schedule starts from Chattogram port. He will complete the trip by visiting his ancestral home in Jobra village, which is part of the Fatehpur union of Hathazari upazila.
In addition to speaking at the university’s fifth convocation, Prof. Yunus will tour the historic Jobra hamlet, where he gained notoriety for his well-known microcredit idea. According to CA’s visit schedule, he will attend a meeting at NCT-5 premises inside Ctg port to exchange views with senior officials of port and shipping sector and representatives of various port users organizations and trade body leaders. A multi-media presentation will be made at the function on existing port operations, performance, future prospects as well as on-going and proposed key installations including Bay Terminal and Matarbari Deep Sea Port, senior port officials said. Prof Muhammad Yunus will go to Ctg Circuit House from port where he will unveil foundation stone of Kalurghat Bridge over the river Karnaphuli and see the progress of initiative being implemented to remove water logging problem in the city and Oxygen-Hathazari road. Additionally, the Chief Adviser will give the relevant authorities the registered deed to the 23-acre property owned by the Chattogram Heart Foundation hospital.
Professor Muhammad Yunus will depart Circuit House for Chattogram University Campus on Wednesday afternoon in order to attend the Fifth Convocation Ceremony, which will take place in CU’s central playground.
In addition to awarding degrees to 22 PhD recipients and certificates to approximately 22,600 participants from the 2011–2023 academic year, CU officials will also award Prof. Yunus a De Lit degree in recognition of his exceptional contributions to promoting global peace and reducing poverty via microcredit.
