Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary for the chief adviser, claimed today that the ousted Sheikh Hasina government failed to pay hundreds of millions of US dollars in unpaid LNG import taxes from Qatar.
“However, the interim government has taken an initiative to pay dues in LNG import and all the dues will be paid within a day or two,” he told BSS on the sidelines of Earthna Summit in Doha.
According to Alam, the interim administration has already covered a significant amount of the costs associated with importing LNG from Qatar.
He stated that the government will pay the US$37 million that is still owed for the LNG import from Qatar in a day or two.
On the fringes of the Earthna Summit in Doha earlier in the day, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, paid Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus a visit. Among those attending the conference were Principal Coordinator on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed, Energy Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Foreign Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, and National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
