CA for enhanced regional cooperation to address climate challenges

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser, today urged greater regional collaboration to address the Asia Pacific region’s escalating urban and climate issues.

During the first meeting of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), he made the call via video message.

Today, ESCAP’s 81st session got underway at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.

In his remarks, Prof Yunus highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to inclusive and climate-resilient urban development, emphasising the country’s reform journey and “Three Zero Vision” – zero wealth concentration, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions.

He also urged the nations of the Asia Pacific to harness youth potential and innovation to shape a sustainable future.

Guided by “Regional cooperation for resilient and sustainable urban development in Asia and the Pacific,” the session brings together 53 member states and nine associate members, according to a message received here.

Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, the Special Assistant (State Minister Rank) to the Chief Adviser, is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the ESCAP event.

Bangladesh has a strategic opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen collaboration, and reaffirm its commitment to implementing inclusive and transformative urban solutions in order to meet the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development during the ESCAP conference.

Over the course of the week-long event, the delegation is anticipated to provide significant insights and establish beneficial collaborations.
