Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has emphasized the need to uncover the truth behind the 2009 BDR massacre. In a meeting with the National Independent Investigation Commission at the State Guest House Jamuna, Yunus urged the commission to probe the incident thoroughly and reveal the full story.
He condemned the ruthless killings, where officers were murdered by their subordinates in what appeared to be a well-organized operation. Yunus assured the commission of full cooperation from the interim government, noting that the nation is eagerly awaiting the results of the investigation.
The commission, led by Major General (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman, reported significant progress in the inquiry. Despite the 16-year gap since the incident, efforts are being made to reach out to individuals with links to the massacre, including 23 foreign-based suspects, with eight already interviewed. The commission aims to complete its report by June, focusing on the planned nature of the killings and drawing comparisons to historical events like the Battle of Plassey.
Commission member Major General (Retd) Jahangir Kabir Talukder criticized the lack of accountability for the massacre, blaming the failures in intelligence, military, and political sectors. The seven-member commission, established on December 24, 2024, has been given 90 working days to complete its investigation.
