Special economic zone to be set up for Nepal

According to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, a special economic zone would be established in the nation for Nepali investors.

At a news conference today at the Foreign Service Academy in the Bailey Road neighborhood of the city, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA, provided the information.

Additionally, the governing board meetings of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) would be conducted every three months, and the eight institutions in charge of luring investment would be consolidated under one roof.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Head of Business Development of BIDA Nahian Rahman Rochi and Deputy Press Secretary of CA Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present.

The press conference was held to highlight the successes of the recently held Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 in the country.

According to Ashik, there was discussion on offering incentives to Bangladeshis who wish to invest abroad in this country.

According to him, the Chief Adviser has ordered the establishment of a free trade area centered on the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, taking the required actions to ensure that nations like China and Bhutan can also profit.

In response to a query, he stated that India’s decision to abandon the transshipment facilities has opened up opportunities for the development of airports in Sylhet, Dhaka, Chattogram, and Syedpur.

Additionally, it was agreed that future decisions on the creation of economic zones would be made through interministerial meetings in which all relevant utility agencies would participate.

Such agencies should have commitments that they would provide necessary utility services following announcement of the zones.
