Russian envoy, 20 others visit Sundarbans

During the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khokhin traveled to the Sundarbans with 20 members of his diplomatic team and their families to take in the natural splendor of the largest mangrove forest in the world.

The lengthy Eid holiday this year has brought a lot of visitors to the Sundarbans. Forest officials told BSS that the ambassador and his team decided to spend their time in the tranquil setting of the Sundarbans.

On April 1-2, they traveled to various locations with government representatives, including the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center in the Sundarbans.

From Eid day, not only Karamjal but also six other major tourist spots in the Sundarbans have been filled with over 10,000 local and international visitors, said the forest officials.

Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center is one of the most attractive and accessible tourist spots in the country, drawing nature lovers in large numbers. Karamjal is home to various wild animals, including spotted deer, crocodiles, monkeys, and turtles.

Visitors are enchanted by the calls of these animals echoing through the dense forest.

As part of an official tour, the Russian Ambassador traveled to Karamjal with his family and members of his diplomatic team.

They conveyed their appreciation for the Sundarbans’ natural beauty and fauna, especially the spotted deer, crocodiles, and monkeys.

The delegation climbed the watch tower, which offered a panoramic view of the enormous greenery and distinctive terrain of the Sundarbans, to take in the breathtaking splendor of the deep forest.

Talking to BSS, Md. Azad Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Karamjal Tourism and Wildlife Center under the Eastern Forest Division’s Chandpai Range said the number of tourists visiting the Sundarbans during this Eid holiday was significantly higher compared to previous years.

Of them, several foreign guests, including the Russian Ambassador visited Karamjal.

As per instructions from higher authorities, the forest department has been providing uninterrupted services to foreign tourists even during holidays.

Forest officials believe that the nine-day-long holiday and the currently peaceful political situation in the country have contributed to the increase in tourist arrivals.
