Lt. Gen Vowell visits Bangladesh to bolster U.S.-Bangladesh military ties

To improve military collaboration between the two countries, U.S. Army Pacific Deputy Commanding General Lt. Gen. Joel P. Vowell traveled to Bangladesh from March 24 to 25.

According to a media statement released by the US embassy here today, the visit reaffirmed the US Army’s dedication to a strong partnership with the Bangladesh Army while highlighting shared security interests and continued cooperation.

Lt. Gen. Vowell held high-level talks with senior members of the Bangladeshi military, including General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the chief of staff of the army, while he was there.

Both sides explored Bangladesh’s primary military challenges and areas where the U.S. could offer support.

A major focus of the visit was the upcoming “Exercise Tiger Lightning” scheduled for summer 2025. 

This joint military exercise between Bangladesh and US army named “Tiger Lightning” aims to enhance peacekeeping readiness and promote interoperability between the armed forces of both nations. 

The possible purchase of American-made hardware to strengthen Bangladesh’s military capabilities and advance interoperability was also discussed.

Lt. Gen. Vowell praised the Bangladeshi military’s professionalism and emphasized the vital role that well-trained armed forces play in preserving regional stability.

According to the US embassy, the visit highlights the expanding defense cooperation and security ties between Bangladesh and the US, which reflect a shared commitment to regional security.
