Consignment of 11,500 MT Indian rice landed at Ctg port

In order to satisfy domestic demand, 11,500 tonnes of non-basmati or parboiled rice have landed at Chattogram port from India under package-2.

According to a statement released by the Food Ministry here today, the shipment that was transported by ship (MV DDS Marina) arrived at the Chattogram port.

It stated that the physical examination of the imported rice following sample collection had already finished.

According to the statement, the essential preparations have already been made, and the loading and unloading of the rice will shortly begin.

According to ministry sources, a private Indian company would sell the rice to Bangladesh as the lowest bidder after the government procurement committee approved the plan on Tuesday, January 7.

The government and India signed an agreement for the importation of 4,50,000 tons of parboiled rice in nine packages.

At least 2,85,769 tons of non-basmati parboiled rice have already entered the nation as a result of the agreement; the remaining amount will arrive gradually.

The committee approved the policy proposal to import 4.50 lakh tonnes of rice from International markets for FY 2024-25 for national emergency needs and  public interest.
