Bangladesh seeks continued Japanese support for infrastructure projects

Bangladesh has emphasized the significance of ongoing collaboration and voiced its sincere hope that Japan will continue to provide its invaluable support in the nation’s infrastructure development initiatives.

According to a message received here from Japan today, this goal was expressed at the 7th Bangladesh-Japan Joint Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Meeting, which was held in Tokyo today.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia led the team from Bangladesh, while Assistant Vice Minister for Engineering and Housing Yosuke Sutsumi and Vice Minister for Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Hirofumi Amakawa represented Japan.

The meeting primarily focused on the progress of ongoing projects being implemented with Japanese support. 

Key projects discussed included Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Chittagong Sewerage Project, the Local Bridge Development Project, and the Kamalapur Multi-Modal Transport Hub Project.

Mia expressed his optimism that successful completion of these projects, with continued Japanese assistance, would provide a significant boost to Bangladesh’s economy. 

He encouraged for the continuance of this crucial collaboration and thanked the Japanese government for its lengthy assistance in a number of areas, most notably infrastructure development.

Bangladesh’s economy will benefit from the successful completion of these projects, and Dhaka is dedicated to bringing these results to fruition, Mia said.

The CEO of the Public-Private Partnership Authority, the superintending engineer of Chittagong WASA, the senior secretary of the Roads and Highways Division, the secretary of civil aviation and tourism, and the secretary of railways all gave separate presentations at the meeting to update the audience on the status of their individual projects.

In the session of the meeting, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan, Mohammad Daud Ali and Japan Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi joined the discussions. 

Finding possible future initiatives that could be carried out with Japanese support and creating proposals for them were the main goals of this session.

During the conversation, there were also representatives from Bangladesh’s embassy in Tokyo.
