General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the chief of army staff, departed the city today to begin a three-day official tour to the Central African Republic.
According to a news release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) here, he will examine the operations of Bangladeshi contingents stationed in the Central African Republic as well as other programs run by Bangladeshi peacekeepers there during the tour.
In addition, the Army chief is expected to open a community clinic built by the Bangladesh Army peacekeepers to offer healthcare to the nation’s citizens.
According to the statement, the Bangladesh Army currently has five contingents participating in peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic.
Additionally, the announcement stated that since 2014, 9,961 army personnel have participated in peacekeeping missions in this war-torn African nation, and 11 of them have lost their lives in the process.
