Japanese Ambassador meets Commerce Adviser

Sk Bashir Uddin, the Commerce Advisor, received a courtesy call from Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh SAIDA Shinichi today at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

The topics of the meeting included the Commerce Adviser’s recent trip to Japan, experience sharing, and ways to increase trade and investment between the two nations.

A news release from the Commerce Ministry stated that the Commerce Adviser had productive talks about investment in Bangladesh with members of major Japanese corporate groups, including NEXI (NIPPON), Mitsui, Marubeni, HSBC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, and JT, in Tokyo.

They have expressed their keen interest towards investing in this country, he added.

Bashir described Japan as a friendly country and one of Bangladesh’s key development partners, adding that there is a chance to further the two countries’ relationship by boosting investment and trade.

He also urged Japanese businesspeople and entrepreneurs to increase their investment in this nation in order to generate more job possibilities.

The Japanese Ambassador retorted that the Commerce Adviser, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and the Bangladesh delegation’s recent visit to Japan would effectively contribute to boosting trade and investment.

He also noted that such efforts would strengthen further the bilateral trade relations.

At the same time, SAIDA Shinichi indicated his desire to bring more skilled laborers from Bangladesh to Japan by implementing a Japanese language instruction program for Bangladeshis.

The event was attended by Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter and Additional Secretary (Director General, Trade Organizations) of the Ministry of Commerce Muhammad Navid Shafiullah.
