BNEWA hands over 85 new houses among Feni flood victims

Under the direction of Navy Chief Admiral M. Nazmul Hasan and at the suggestion of its president Nadia Sultana, the Bangladesh Navy Family Welfare Association (BNEWA) donated 85 newly constructed homes to flood victims in the Feni district’s Sadar and Fulgazi upazilas.

“Chittagong Naval Zone Commander Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali formally handed over the newly built houses among the 85 families of the flood victims in Feni district,” said a release of the Directorate of Inters-Services Public Relations (ISPR) this afternoon.

On August 28, 2024, a large portion of several districts, including Feni, were submerged due to the intense rainfall and the entry of river water.

The whole Feni district, including homes, schools, colleges, madrasas, mosques, and temples, particularly the Feni Sadar and Fulgazi upazilas, was submerged during that time, leaving many residents completely homeless.

In response to the disaster, the BNFWA and Navy management took the initiative to build a residence to help the flood victims get well. Numerous organizations, institutions, and well-known individuals participated in the initiative as well.

“Work on the project began on October 09, 2024,” the ISPR mentioned.

The freshly constructed one and a half-story flood-resilient homes were designed to resemble the homes in Bangladesh’s flood-prone Munshiganj area, allowing residents to remain safely at home with their families even during flooding.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Feni, Superintendent of Police (SP), other senior
officials of the Navy, local administration and dignitaries were present,
among others, on the occasion.
