Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser, has honored the sacrifices of the historic Language Movement on International Mother Language Day and Amar Ekushey.
Today at 12:12 a.m., he paid respects by laying a wreath at the city’s Central Shaheed Minar.
When midnight rolled around, the Chief Adviser was on the grounds of Shaheed Minar.
Playing the timeless melody “Amar Vaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February… Ami Ki Vulitey Pari?” on the Amar Ekushey, he walked slowly to the shrine of the Central Shaheed Minar.
As a sign of deep respect for the Language Heroes’ memories, the Chief Adviser stood for a while in mournful silence.
High-ranking civil and military officials, freedom fighters, chiefs of the three services, advisers to the interim government, and ambassadors were all present.
Later, hundreds of people from all walks of life marched barefoot, holding flowers in their hands, and sang “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February” to commemorate the language heroes’ ultimate sacrifice on this day in 1952, marking the opening of the Shaheed Minar to the public.
