Hajj flights to begin April 29

A ministry official with knowledge of the procedure says the Hajj flights will start on April 29 and go until May 31.

Today, Nasrin Jahan, the secretary of the ministry of civil aviation and tourism, revealed the itinerary of Hajj flights.

According to her, 87,100 pilgrims from Bangladesh are expected to make the Hajj this year.

“The state-run Biman Bangladesh Airlines will carry 43,550 pilgrims, which is 50 percent, Saudia Airlines and Flynas will carry the remaining 43,550, which is 35 percent and 15 percent respectively,” she said.

During a Hajj management meeting at the Agargaon Tourism Building, the secretary said that the airfare for each pilgrim has been set at Tk. 167,820.

Flight scheduling, arrangements for Bangladeshis registered overseas, updating passenger information on the internet portal, luggage management, and guaranteeing effective transportation services were among the main subjects of discussion, according to the conference.

According to the government, a task force and monitoring committee have been established to supervise the Hajj transportation procedure.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the concerned ministry, airlines and Hajj agencies.

Based on moon sighting, the Hajj is expected to take place on June 5.
