Over 1.4m taxpayers submit returns thru online: NBR

This year, more than 1.4 million taxpayers have filed their forms electronically, and more than 1.8 million have registered for electronic returns.

According to a news statement from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), taxpayers have responded overwhelmingly to the NBR’s online income tax return filing system.

It stated that the online return filing procedure has been progressively made more taxpayer-friendly and simpler in response to the requests and feedback from the distinguished taxpayers.

Even after Income Tax Day, the NBR has already made the decision to maintain the online income tax return filing service for the entire year.

According to Section 76 of the Income Tax Act of 2023, the taxpayer will not receive an investment tax refund or any other tax exemption if the return is filed after the Income Tax Day.

Furthermore, in accordance with Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, additional tax will be levied on the amount of tax that is not paid on the tax day at the rate of 2% per month (up to 24 months).

In addition, the revenue board expressed gratitude to the taxpayers who submitted their income tax forms online and encouraged others to do so in order to receive income tax certificates.
