Today at the secretariat here, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Department of Environment (DoE), which is part of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to a news statement from the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Sanjay Mathur, regional director of the Asia Pacific Region for UNOPS, and Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, director general (DG) of DoE, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective parties.

According to the statement, Sudhir Muralidharan, the national director of the UNOPS, Dr. Farhina Ahmed, the ministry’s secretary, and Dr. Fahmida Khanom, its additional secretary, attended the signing event.

This Memorandum of Understanding is a major step in enhancing Bangladesh’s environmental governance and furthering its dedication to climate resilience and sustainable development.

According to the MoU, the two sides will work together on important issues, such as creating and carrying out initiatives, programs, and policies that support the government’s emphasis on pollution control, climate change adaptation, and mitigation.

Building institutional capacity will be a key priority, improving climate resilience and regulatory enforcement in both urban and rural areas.

The agreement will also make it easier to develop instruments and policies for pollution prevention, ecosystem restoration, and environmental sustainability that meet both national and international criteria.

The collaboration will also investigate cutting-edge technology and solutions for environmental preservation, such as climate-smart practices catered to regional requirements, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and best-in-class infrastructure solutions.

Institutional networking and the adoption of international best practices in environmental resource management will be further supported by knowledge-sharing and capacity-building programs.

On the basis of agreement, both sides may potentially look into other areas of collaboration.
