Japan to provide 5 patrol vessels to Bangladesh

Bangladesh will get five patrol boats from Japan to aid in the defense of its coastline.

According to a news statement, this information was made public this morning when recently appointed Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh SAIDA Shinichi visited Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.

Additionally, the ambassador stated that Japan is willing to negotiate a deal to supply Bangladesh with air pollution monitoring technology.

During the meeting, the Japanese Ambassador reiterated Japan’s strong support for the Bangladesh interim government and mentioned that upcoming Parliamentary Vice Minister level visit will officially convey this message of political support. 

He emphasized how crucial it is that the two nations have frequent high-level visit exchanges and Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) as soon as possible.

Additionally, he expressed pleasure with the two nations’ ongoing Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations.According to him, the JICA Chief would travel to Bangladesh in March of this year.

The Japanese government’s support for the interim administration was acknowledged by the Foreign Advisor.

He also thanked Tokyo for being Bangladesh’s largest bilateral development partner and acknowledged Japan’s contribution to major development initiatives in Bangladesh. 

He also mentioned that Bangladesh’s relationship with Japan has always been steady and Japanese investments in Bangladesh will always be secured.

The Adviser thanked Japan’s continued efforts towards a durable solution for the safe, sustainable, and dignified return of Rohingyas to the Rakhine State of Myanmar.

He also appreciated Japan’s humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas including those relocated in Bhashan Char.

He requested Japanese support for the next meeting on the Rohingya problem that Bangladesh will host in Doha in cooperation with the UN, adding that recent events in Rakhine State are putting more strain on Bangladesh.

In international forums, both parties discussed bilateral cooperation and mutual assistance in election-related concerns.

The Foreign Advisor said he hoped that during his term, the relationship between Bangladesh and Japan will grow to a new level.
