Trump invited to address Congress joint session on March 4

In his first official message to members since taking back office, US Speaker Mike Johnson on Saturday asked President Donald Trump to speak to a joint session of Congress on March 4.

In a letter to the president, the Republican speaker, who is a strong supporter of Trump, asked him to “share your America First vision for our legislative future.”

Trump’s “strong leadership and bold action” during the first week of his second term were also commended in Johnson’s letter.

“America’s Golden Age has begun,” the letter said, invoking a phrase used by Trump in his inaugural address on Monday.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have majorities held by Trump’s Republican Party.

Before speaking to supporters on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada, the president has been out of Washington since Friday, traveling to the states of California and North Carolina, which have been devastated by natural disasters, on the first trip of his second term.
