Dhaka, [25 January, 2025] – Md. Sayed Basit, Joint Convener of the Social Development and Health Department of Bangladesh Scouts and Group Secretary of Saptanil Mukta Mahadal, has been awarded the esteemed Chairman’s Gallantry Award by the Asia Pacific Region. This prestigious recognition honors his exceptional service in disaster relief and his unwavering commitment to saving lives, making him the first Bangladeshi Scout to achieve this distinction.
Mr. Basit has demonstrated remarkable bravery and selflessness throughout his career. He has actively participated in numerous rescue and firefighting operations across Dhaka city, notably contributing to efforts during the devastating Banani tragedy, the Chawkbazar fire, and the tragic events in Narayanganj. In these and 69 other fire incidents, he risked his own life to save countless civilians.
The Asia Pacific Regional Chairman’s Gallantry Award acknowledges Mr. Basit’s extraordinary courage and dedication to humanitarian service. This recognition not only honors his individual achievements but also serves as an inspiration to all members of the Bangladesh Scouts and the entire scouting community.
