Ajit Singh, the Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, visited Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Faruk E. Azam, Bir Protik, in his secretariat office today as a courtesy.
They talked about the recent disastrous floods in Bangladesh and the infiltration of Myanmar residents who had been forcibly displaced during the meeting.
The High Commissioner asked about the flood rehabilitation strategy and talked about the floods in Bangladesh.
Among other important topics, he talked about disaster shelter, first aid, and disaster early warning systems.
Faruk E Azam said Bangladesh, especially the people of Chattogram Division, is making sacrifices to provide shelter to a large number of Rohingyas. Therefore, it is necessary to take up development activities for the locals as well as improving quality life of Rohingyas.
The High Commissioner showed interest in the matter and assured to extend all out cooperation.
The high commissioner also commended Bangladesh for providing shelter to the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens residing in Bangladesh.
He also thanked the international community for its humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya people.
In the Rohingya refugee camps, Ajit Singh stated his goal to build homes that are resilient to natural disasters.
Senior ministry officials attended the ceremony, along with Md. Kamrul Hasan, secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
