57 more stranded Bangladeshis repatriated from war torn Lebanon

With full government funding, 57 trapped Bangladeshi people were repatriated from war-torn Lebanon today on an aircraft from Qatar.

According to a foreign ministry press release here, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) helped the plane land at Hazrat Shajalal International Airport (HSIA) at 9:15 a.m.

It further stated that 18 flights had repatriated 1,199 Bangladeshi nationals from Lebanon thus far.

Officials from Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment ministries and IOM welcomed the returnees at the airport. 

Each repatriated individual received TK 5,000 from IOM for basic medical care, food supplies, and pocket money.

Ministry representatives questioned the returnees about their wellbeing and talked about the atrocities of the ongoing conflict.

According to reports, one bombing attack during the battle has claimed the life of a Bangladeshi national thus far.

All Bangladeshi expats in Lebanon who want to go back home would be repatriated at government expense, the administration has promised.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut continues its efforts to ensure   safe return of enthusiastic expatriates and the safety of those who choose to remain in Lebanon.
