Commission to speak with Hasina over BDR carnage if allowed: Chief

As part of the effort to reinvestigate the carnage that occurred on February 25–26, 2009, the National Independent Investigation Commission Chief Maj Gen (retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman stated today that, with permission, they would attempt to speak with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by traveling to India.

“For the purpose of the investigation, the commission will go to India and interrogate Sheikh Hasina if the government gives us permission,” he said in a views-exchange meeting with the BDR mutiny martyr families at the Retired Armed Forces Officers Welfare Association (RAOWA) club here.

Everyone should have faith in the commission, which was established following the inauguration of the interim administration, according to Fazlur Rahman, a former director general of the police.

Since so much evidence of the Pilkhana atrocity was destroyed in 16 years (under the Awami League administration), he implored all the martyr families of the BDR massacre, which claimed the lives of 74 people, including 57 army officials, to collaborate.

The National Independent Investigation panel on the BDR atrocity will be unbiased, the panel chief added.

“The tasks of investigation will be carried out impartially with the cooperation of everyone,” he said.

During the views-exchange conference, former army officers, survivors of the Pilkhana carnage, and relatives of the victims engaged in an open discussion.
