Israel’s army says intercepted missile launched from Yemen

According to Israel’s military, early Friday, a missile fired from Yemen entered Israeli territory and was intercepted.

“A missile that was launched from Yemen and crossed into Israeli territory was intercepted,” the military said in a statement posted to its Telegram channel.

“A report was received regarding shrapnel from the interception that fell in the area of Modi’in in central Israel. The details are under review.”

After air raid sirens sounded in the country’s center and south, Israel’s emergency response provider, Magen David Adom, said it had treated a number of individuals who were hurt or had panic attacks while traveling to shelters.

Israel also claimed to have intercepted a missile fired from Yemen on Tuesday.

In what they claim is sympathy with Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Iran-backed Huthis have been launching missiles and drones at Israel as well as ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. They also control a large portion of war-torn Yemen.

Since Israel and Hezbollah, another organization supported by Iran, agreed to a ceasefire in November, the Huthis have increased their attacks.

Israel has also attacked Yemen; at the end of December, it targeted the international airport in Sanaa.
