In light of the death of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a close friend of the Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser, has expressed his profound sorrow and sincere condolences to the President of the Indian National Congress and the Prime Minister of India.
The Chief Adviser characterized Dr. Manmohan Singh in his messages as a statesman, visionary leader, and person of great humility who was renowned for his unflinching dedication to securing the welfare of the Indian populace.
According to him, the late Indian Prime Minister’s contributions to the country’s economic revolution will live on in memory.
Prof Yunus stated that Dr Singh’s leadership not only shaped the future of India but also contributed to strengthening the bond of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Bangladesh and India.
Referring to Dr. Manmohan Singh’s role in promoting regional cooperation, the Chief Adviser highlighted the late leader’s vision and firm commitment to regional peace, prosperity and role in advancing South Asian cooperation.
In honor of Dr. Manmohan Singh, he called on the nations of South Asia to collaborate in order to continue the rich legacy of his work and ideals.
The Chief Adviser reminisced about his many special and priceless moments spent with Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The late Indian Prime Minister’s heartfelt congratulations on Dr. Yunus’s October 2006 Nobel Peace Prize triumph were acknowledged by Prof. Yunus in his condolence notes.
He also recalled his encounters with Dr. Singh in January 2007 in New Delhi and later in December 2009 when the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha and members of both houses received Prof. Yunus’s invitation to give the 2nd Prof. Hiren Mukerjee Annual Parliamentary Lecture.
Prof Yunus extended, on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh, and the government and the people of India.
