Shomi Kaiser gets bail in murder attempt case

In a case involving her attempt to kill businessman Ishtiak Mahmud during the recent anti-discrimination student protest, the High Court today granted actress Shomi Kaiser temporary bail.

Following a hearing on a petition submitted by Shomi, a High Court division bench consisting of Justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Syed Enayet Hossain issued the ruling.

The case documents state that on July 18, Ishtiak Mahmud and other participants attended a gathering for the anti-discrimination student movement. Goons from the Awami League charged the demonstration as it approached Azampur Nawab Habibullah High School in Uttara Sector-4, shooting at the demonstrators without distinction.

After being shot once in the abdomen, Ishtiak was taken to Evercare Hospital and treated for his wounds.

On September 29, Ishtiak Mahmud filed a complaint against 126 people, including former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, with the Uttara East Police Station.
