Touhid calls for ensuring justice, equality for all civilizations

World leaders have been urged by foreign adviser Md. Touhid Hossain to promote communication, use AI sensibly, and guarantee justice, equality, and sustainability for all civilisations.

According to a news release from the foreign ministry today, he made the call while speaking at the 10th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) Group of Friends High-Level Meeting in Cascis, Portugal.

The forum, which has as its theme “United in Peace: Restoring Trust, Reshaping the Future,” will take place from November 25–27, 2024, at a pivotal moment when the globe struggles with escalating conflicts, climate change, and widening hatred-fueled divisions.

The adviser emphasised Bangladesh’s steadfast dedication to humanity and peace in his speech.

He underlined the country’s commitment to promoting sustainability in line with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus’s groundbreaking Three Zeros program, which aims to achieve zero unemployment, zero poverty, and zero carbon emissions.

Speaking of the ongoing atrocity in Gaza that goes unpunished, he called for concerted efforts to build a future characterised by peace, respect for one another, and collaboration for future generations.

Touhid spoke with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Spanish Foreign Minister Jos-Manuel Albares Bueno on the fringes of the meeting.

A wide range of subjects of shared interest were discussed at the sessions, including strengthening collaboration in important areas including investment, infrastructure, trade, and railroads.

The leaders also underlined the need of bolstering bilateral relations through joint projects and high-level visits.

Important regional and international concerns were covered, such as assistance in settling the Rohingya issue, difficulties brought on by Bangladesh’s LDC graduation, and the grave humanitarian situation brought on by Israel’s attacks in Gaza and Lebanon.

In order to address common issues and advance peace, security, and sustainable development, the talks also emphasised the necessity of concerted efforts in international venues.

The occasion evolved into a chance to celebrate and highlight UNAOC’s accomplishments as well as lay out the plan for “One Humanity” going forward.

Participants considered the 20-year history of the “Alliance of Civilisations,” which was initially put out by Spain in September 2004 during the 59th session of the UN General Assembly.

UNAOC has developed into a vibrant and significant organisation inside the UN system over time.
