Tazreen fashion victims demand compensation

Families of the victims of the Tazreen fashion fire catastrophe have called for factory owner Delwar Hossain to be held to outstanding standards and to provide sufficient recompense to the workers who were killed and injured.

Speaking at a rally in front of the factory in the Nishchintapur area of Assulia today, they said that although factory owner Delwar Hossain is still at large more than ten years after the fatal fire incident, nothing has been done to provide compensation to the families of the workers who were killed and injured.

On November 24, 2012, a deadly fire in Tazreen Fashion Ltd in Ashulia’s Nishchintapur area left 117 workers dead and 200 others injured.

Families of the workers who died and those who were injured, along with labour leaders and activists, gathered in front of the plant to give flowers and prayers on the occasion of the tragedy’s 12th anniversary. There, they also staged a protest procession.

In remembrance of those lost in the fire, wreaths were placed in front of the factory by several groups of garment workers and the Industrial Police.

In the meantime, some workers lit candles on Saturday night in remembrance of the fallen coworkers.
