ADB to invest in agriculture sector

Asian Development Bank (ADB) will invest in research and development of agriculture and food technology sector of Bangladesh.

The development partner will also invest for human resource development and climate management.

A five-year project ‘Strengthening High Education in Agriculture Project (SATP)’ of about Taka 2,300 crore has been taken, which is expected to start from next year, said a press release.

ADB Country Director to Bangladesh Hoe Yun Jeong said it when he paid a courtesy call on University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr SMA Faiz at his office here today.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) and Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) will implement the project jointly.

UGC members Prof Dr Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Prof Dr M Anwar Hossain, UGC Director of Planning and Development Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan, ADB country operation head Na Won Kim, senior social sector economist and mission leader Ryotaro Hayashi and associate project analyst Md. Moniruzzaman, among others, were present in the meeting.
