Fate of 64 hostages held in Gaza unknown

251 hostages, some of whom were already dead, were taken back into the Gaza Strip by Hamas militants during the biggest attack on Israel in history.

Israel thinks that the 64 individuals who remain in captivity a year later—among them two children—are still alive.

The captives are vital negotiating chips for the Palestinian militant organization that controls the Gaza Strip in order to negotiate a ceasefire with Israel and demand the release of Palestinian inmates detained in Israeli prisons.
