It was the bloodiest day of violence since Hezbollah and Israel went to war in 2006, according to Lebanon, which reported on Tuesday that the number of people killed by Israeli shelling the day before had increased to 558, including 50 children.
Health Minister Firass Abiad stated, “The health ministry has recorded 558 deaths so far, including 50 children and 94 women.”
“This frankly negates the lies of the Israeli enemy who said it was targeting combat forces… The truth, unfortunately, is that the vast majority, if not all, of those killed in yesterday’s attacks were unarmed people in their homes,” he added.
He claimed that 1,835 individuals had been injured in all and that they were being treated in 54 hospitals.
Rescuers from the Risala Scout Association, connected to Amal, a Hezbollah ally, accounted for four of the deceased.
In south Lebanon, a number of terrorist organizations run medical facilities and emergency response services.
According to Abiad, Tuesday’s attack on the Bint Jbeil hospital near the Israeli border resulted in the injuries of sixteen rescue personnel and firefighters.
Abiad added that the number of casualties from the Israeli strike in south Beirut on Friday, which claimed the life of Ibrahim Aqil, the leader of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, had grown to 55, including seven children.
45 people had been reported dead by authorities in that attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut earlier.
