Biden welcomes further US-Bangladesh engagement: White House

President Joseph R. Biden of the United States and Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh, have reaffirmed the tight relationship between Washington and Dhaka, which is based on strong people-to-people relationships and shared democratic ideals.

After the two leaders met on the fringes of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Tuesday, the White House released a statement in which President Biden praised additional cooperation between the two administrations and offered ongoing US support as Bangladesh executes its new reform agenda.

Prof. Yunus was congratulated by the US president on his recent selection to lead Bangladesh’s interim government.

On August 8th, Prof. Yunus took the oath of office as the chief adviser of the provisional administration, following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina to the President, who had left the nation due to a widespread revolt spearheaded by students against her administration.
